Lucy

My heart breaks to tell you that our K9TL family member, Lucy, is no longer with us… Lucy passed away last night, July 24, 2008 with health complications.

For those that met Lucy remember her from her silly cute puppy-scooching around the rally course and capturing our hearts by performing her “wash your face” trick. Lucy came from such an incredible life — her life story is like a movie with a happy ending (Lucy’s life story).

We all watched Lucy transform from being shy, knowing very little about obedience to being a star on the rally course and welcoming all new K9TL Members.

Lucy, you are a star, we miss you dearly.

Meet Lucy

Lucy 2005 K9TL

Hi, I am Lucy.

I don’t remember much of Hurricane Rita, except that I was lost, scared, and a nice lady picked me up in her truck next to the highway**. She brought me to her sister’s backyard in Austin, boring….

The first thing I did was escape, but living by yourself is not as fun as it sounds. I got really hungry, dirty and had to hide from all the big trucks. One day I found a big fluffy dog that I wanted to play with. I was so happy! I ran around in the middle of the street - bowing, spinning, anything to get his attention. I even followed him to his family’s backyard. I spent a few days there, eating as much as I could.

Then this guy showed up and brought me in his truck to the animal shelter. All the other dogs told me that this was the end. But I never lost hope in my new found family. And sure enough, they came and picked me up after no one claimed me.

Wow, was this a strange family? First, they brought me to the vet who gave me lots of shots and made me rest in my crate for two full months because I had worms in my heart. Yucky… After that, every other Saturday, we went to “Adoption day” to meet lots of other dogs and some people. The big fluffy dog did not get to go. haa haa….

One day, we went on a really long car ride, and we got to a new house. We don’t go to Adoption day anymore. Now, we only go to Rally Practice.

**The lady who rescued Lucy saw her Profile on the Animal rescue group’s webpage, and emailed the group.
