Meet Java

by Sara

One Sunday my husband and I were driving home when we passed a dog adoption fair so we decided to stop and see the little dogs, there was Java playing while her sisters and brothers were sleeping, after playing and petting her, we decided to take her home. Java is named after my love for coffee and my husband’s love for computers.

Java is known also as Houdini, the escapist. Since she was a baby, she was able to escape from every place that we put her in, many times we found her out of her crate and waiting for us to come home.

Breed: Labrador Retriever
Place of Birth: Hephzibah, Georgia
DOB: June 15, 2005
Likes: Squidgy toys, loves to run, to sit and watch people walking by, swimming on the beach, fetch on the water, she loves to play when she is getting her bath and after that being brushed. She loves to play in the snow.
Pet-Peeves: Doesn’t like at all thunder storms as well as fireworks.
Quirky Tid-bit: Loves to eat grass
Our Similarities: We both enjoy hiking and outdoors activities.
Trivia: Once known as the “St John’s Dogs,” the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman’s nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800’s by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog’s fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled.

Meet Alfie

Alfie is the first dog I’ve ever owned. I grew up as an animal crazy kid, but I was limited to a parakeet. I wanted a dog as long as I could remember, and I was finally able to live out my childhood dream as an adult with Alfie. I was very lucky to get him from a fabulous breeder when I was living in Pennsylvania. I couldn’t imagine a better dog; Alfie is as sweet and good-natured as any dog you’d ever meet. One look from his liquidy brown spaniel eyes will melt even the coldest of hearts!

Name: Roycroft Alfalfa Sprout
Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Place of Birth: Valley City, Ohio
DOB: December 18, 2005
Nickname: Alfie
Likes: Tennis balls, destroying toys, bully sticks, sleeping on the couch, playing with other little dogs, ear scratches, looking cute
Pet-Peeves: Dogs that bark at him, getting groomed
Quirky Tid-bit: He’s very polite and if I give him something he doesn’t want to eat, he will gently take it and quietly place it in another room as if he doesn’t want to hurt my feelings.
Trivia: King Charles, who gave this breed his name, enacted a law that allowed Cavaliers free access to any governmental building, including Parliament.

Meet Burger

by Kamila and Gabriel

Burger came into our lives at the end of May just about 2 years ago. It was love at first sight, without a doubt. Initially he was supposed to be a present for Mom, but soon enough he became a “Daddy’s boy”.

Burger seems to prefer construction sites than nail salons…at least that’s what Daddy thinks, but truth be told, Burger doesn’t mind what he is doing as long he is close to family. If Burger was a human, he would be most like a chill surfer bro, that would check out a live show in the evening with the love of his life, and still would wake up early to help his parents grocery shop. He is just an all around good guy.

Burger definitely makes friends everywhere he goes, and as his parents, we are amazed at how he can bring a smile to a passer by at any time of the day, no matter what that passer by is doing, how their day went, who they’re talking to, or what the weather is. Burger has an undeniable power of delivering joy everywhere he goes. What an amazing ability!!! At the same time, he’s so modest and quiet, he definitely doesn’t realize how popular he is…Or does he?

Another magic power of Burger’s is the secret charm to make people around him sleepy.

It goes like this: you wake up in the morning, want to be productive, sit in front of computer, and suddenly, someone slowly crawls up on the couch… Next thing you know, you hear a snort, and see delightfully relaxed squishy face of Burger, drifting away in a snooze, and…taking you with him. Hey, it’s so much better to sleep in, right? At least in Burger’s chill world. So as you see, Burger’s always been a laid back kind of guy. Ready to lounge at any time, a nature lover, putting family first, patient.

Well, every chill bro needs a beautiful lady around, to truly be happy. And one day, she came (in a silver designer travel bag…). She’s a crazy red-head, Eastern-European flair, devil sitting behind her huge ears… And she turned his life upside down…Bushka…But that’s another doggie story.

Breed: French Bulldog
Place of Birth: Manteca, CA
DOB: March 17, 2007
Nickname: Burger-Schmurger, Burga-derka, Burgington, Burgee, Cream Cheese Kid (his fave food enhancer, plus Burger looks like he was made out of cream cheese, so soft and white), Emo Kid (sometimes he’s just emo), Bud
Likes: Basking in the sun, while sitted in a chair, when we’re having brunch in one of the neighborhood spots; that’s when he attracts all the people’s attention, and acts like he doesn’t even care. Toys that sing songs, skateboarding, Frisbee, “long walks on the beach”, and the weekends!!!
Pet-Peeves: Pedicure
Quirky Tid-bit: Doesn’t eat his food in the morning right away; instead, eats a little, then guards the bowl, so that always-hungry Bushka doesn’t get to it; then eats a little as the day goes, frequently starts eating when it’s time to go for a walk, leaving us hanging at the doorstep.
Our Similarities: He’s a total family-guy, enjoys hiking and all outdoors, and his body reacts similar to Dad’s when he has too much protein! …What????
Trivia: French Bulldogs were quite popular with Parisian prostitutes at the beginning of 20th century, adding element of class to the infamous profession. These notorious belles de nuit kept Frenchies in the bordellos or with them on the streets. Way to get popular!
