My heart breaks to tell you that our K9TL family member, Lucy, is no longer with us… Lucy passed away last night, July 24, 2008 with health complications.
For those that met Lucy remember her from her silly cute puppy-scooching around the rally course and capturing our hearts by performing her “wash your face” trick. Lucy came from such an incredible life — her life story is like a movie with a happy ending (Lucy’s life story).
We all watched Lucy transform from being shy, knowing very little about obedience to being a star on the rally course and welcoming all new K9TL Members.
I met FUZZY at the Human Society Silicon Valley, May 2007 during my weekly visits as a dog socializer; one of the canines I’d never taken for a walk. He did ask me every time I went past his kennel with begging eyes. Ironically, I took him in as a foster pet for a week in Oct 2007 when his foster parents were out of town and did not have the heart to give him back. Now there’s not a minute without him.
Fuzzy wanted to say a special thanks to all the folks at the shelter for taking good care of him. These were his words: “woof-woof-woof-woooof”.
Very intelligent and understanding but I do find his rules a little hard to adhere to (sometimes ). Loves the dog park and to go on walks and hikes.
Whenever the garage door opens he wants to hop in the car for a ride. He needs a lot of attention when I am not working. btw eating, watching tv etc. are not considered work. But when I am in the kitchen he never disturbs, he’ll lie down and follow me with his eyes.
Loves to be petted…no prejudice here…he’ll take it from anyone who’ll give it to him. A little uncomfortable around new people but doesn’t take a long time to gel.
Breed: Flat-Coat Retriever with lots of Chow Place of Birth: Not known DOB: Not known Nickname: Boo Likes: Play, tug toy, loves to be outdoors Pet-Peeves: Vacuum cleaners, blow dryers Quirky Tid-bit: Has a nice bed but never sleeps on it…likes to sleep in the corner with his head against the wall. Trivia: Flat coats seem to take criticism (harsh voice or collar corrections) to heart and can get their feelings hurt easily. They often “shut down” when this happens and it can be very aggravating. You have to “make up” with the dog before they get going again sometimes. Trivia Reference: www.k9web.com
My husband and I adopted Riley from the Peninsula Humane Society just before Thanksgiving last year. As soon as we saw his photo, we knew he would be the perfect dog for us.
Look at that face… who could resist?
Riley is Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix. That’s our best guess, anyway. We’re not sure what breed his ears are, but we’re pretty sure that given the right wind conditions, he can fly. He is a great dog with lots of energy and nearly too much smarts. He loves doing his commands and showing off his tricks.
We call him Magneto because he is nearly impossible to confine. An ordinary dog gate, even one made for a Golden Retriever, can’t hold Riley back. The first few weeks we had Riley, it was a constant game of one-ups-man-ship. Every time we left the house, we’d come home and Riley would be on the wrong side of the gate looking at us with pride.
“Look at me! I did it!! I got out!!!”
Our puppy’s gate (Version 1.0) had cardboard on the inside so that Riley couldn’t climb it.
For puppy’s gate (Version 2.0), we fit the inside of the gate with custom cut plastic so that Riley couldn’t climb it. Now we call him Magneto, after the character from X-Men.
Breed: Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier Place of Birth: Somewhere in Northern California DOB: Approximately August 15, 2007 Nickname: Magneto Likes: Tennis balls, the dog park, getting dirty, wrestling, socks, being chased Pet-Peeves: Baths, sharing, being woken up from a nap Quirky Tid-bit: The first time we took Riley to the dog park he immediately grabbed the nearest tennis ball and started running circles around the other dogs. He still uses the same move to make friends… or get into to an old fashioned wrestling match. He loves to rough house and get out all that puppy energy.
