Meet Riley
By Andrea and Robert Schultz

My husband and I adopted Riley from the Peninsula Humane Society just before Thanksgiving last year. As soon as we saw his photo, we knew he would be the perfect dog for us.
Look at that face… who could resist?
Riley is Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix. That’s our best guess, anyway. We’re not sure what breed his ears are, but we’re pretty sure that given the right wind conditions, he can fly. He is a great dog with lots of energy and nearly too much smarts. He loves doing his commands and showing off his tricks.

We call him Magneto because he is nearly impossible to confine. An ordinary dog gate, even one made for a Golden Retriever, can’t hold Riley back. The first few weeks we had Riley, it was a constant game of one-ups-man-ship. Every time we left the house, we’d come home and Riley would be on the wrong side of the gate looking at us with pride.
“Look at me! I did it!! I got out!!!”
Our puppy’s gate (Version 1.0) had cardboard on the inside so that Riley couldn’t climb it.

For puppy’s gate (Version 2.0), we fit the inside of the gate with custom cut plastic so that Riley couldn’t climb it. Now we call him Magneto, after the character from X-Men.
Breed: Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier
Place of Birth: Somewhere in Northern California
DOB: Approximately August 15, 2007
Nickname: Magneto
Likes: Tennis balls, the dog park, getting dirty, wrestling, socks, being chased
Pet-Peeves: Baths, sharing, being woken up from a nap
Quirky Tid-bit: The first time we took Riley to the dog park he immediately grabbed the nearest tennis ball and started running circles around the other dogs. He still uses the same move to make friends… or get into to an old fashioned wrestling match. He loves to rough house and get out all that puppy energy.
